Unprecedented torrential rains in Tamil Nadu wreaked havoc in which more than 427 people lost their lives, and over 11,50,000 people from 8 districts got displaced. There was a need to repair over 50,000 houses.

Objectives

To rehabilitate the worst flood-affected residents from the area around the EML factory Oragadam and Thiruvottriyur, North Chennai

To identify schools in and around the areas and provide support with re-building and/or repairing the sanitation facilities

Scope of Work

To identify the worst affected homes in Keela Padapai, Mudichoor, Vaipur, and Manivakkam

To identify families that cannot fund their own repairs and are least likely to receive Government funding or support.

To identify 3 co-ed and girl's schools in need of sanitation support.

Project Execution: Phase1

A total of 101 families were supported.

Helped in repairing and reconstructing 83 homes.

Built 18 new houses.

Repaired 53 WC's, including building 21 new WC's impacting over 3600 beneficiaries.

Project Execution: Phase 2

A total of 430 families received support

Repaired 55 homes in Oragadam.

Reconstructed 25 homes, repaired 50 damaged homes and built 300 sanitation units in Tiruvettuyur.

Helped in imparting BCC's disaster preparedness for all families.
